Parking sensors and led under car lighting

Installation of parking sensors

All our parking sensors come with instructions and the following point are made in those instructions however these are the main reasons we are aware of for failed installations

1)   Test the set before you install it – drill your bumper – or paint the sensors. See note 5) and 6 ) below for sequence.

2)   Select after checking what’s behind - and mark out the position of the sensors – equally spread across the bumper unless you have a tow hitch in which case the sensors should be installed at least 400mm each side of the hitch. Masking tape applied to the right bits of the bumper and then marked up will help to stop your drill slipping and damaging the bumper. ( its your pride and joy )

3)   When selecting your position for the sensors check the construction of the bumper for internal reinforcement – some cars are already marked out for sensors or look at where the factory fit sensors are put on someone else’s car.

4)   the level sensors are installed at should be approx. 500 mm from the ground – otherwise they will simply pick up the ‘ground’ all the time. If you see factory fit ones lower you will note they are angled upwards – bmw use this method.

5)   the controller needs to be ‘powered up’ and ‘beep’ at you with just the display connected – it should then be silent and the display clear of digits

6)   once it has been tested / set this way then the sensors can be plugged in, ideally one at a time and tested. You will notice that the sensor has and angle of detection approximately equal to 130 degrees

7)   If you want to paint the sensors this can be done but with care – several thin coats are better than one and try to paint them with the painted face hanging down – that way paint does not run into the sensor. Please test them before you paint.

8)   Time spent in preparation is never wasted and avoids disappointment.

This will not guarantee a success but may help to eliminate some of the basic mistakes made by others – we do keep spares and are happy to help
